Big brother is watching you – and hopefully of course so are your potential clients.
As a firm we pride ourselves on being active on many social media platforms and have found social media a very powerful, and in most circumstances, free marketing tool. If used effectively this can prove to be an invaluable arm to your firms general presence in a selected geographical area. Social media offers the opportunity to promote, update and inform connections of anything from important dates to charitable events undertaken by your firm providing your firm with exposure to your next potential client/introducers.
However, social networking sites have come in for criticism for many reasons therefore employers and employees will need to be aware of unguarded comments made on such sites as H M Revenue & Customs are making use of such sites as part of their investigatory powers and as they say “anything said will be taken down in evidence and will be used against you”.
There is a temptation on such platforms to build a certain profile perhaps for marketing purposes which may or may not be wholly accurate. H M Revenue & Customs will take this at face value and will question any accounts or returns submitted against any such media publications which once made may prove difficult to defend against. Therefore care is needed when making such comments to ensure that you are gaining maximum effect from your social media marketing.
