Players Tee-off at New Brighton's Latest Golfing Attraction

THE first players have teed off at New Brighton’s newest attraction.

As the world’s greatest golf tournament took place in nearby Hoylake, one Wirral entrepreneur was expanding his already successful empire as he welcomed the next budding Tiger Woods to Landmark Adventure Golf.

The course - situated next to the existing 18-hole Championship Adventure Golf Course on King’s Parade - is the latest creation of Nick Ashfield.

The theme of the second course is Wirral landmarks – both past and present – and is a celebration of the peninsula’s wonderful and interesting history.

Visitors will navigate holes inspired by landmarks including the Mersey Tunnels, the piers, Birkenhead Priory, Lady Lever Art Gallery and Fort Perch.

Nick said: “Our second course is a totally different style to our hugely popular first course.

“When I set out to create a unique concept and theme for course two I suddenly realised I was surrounded by it.

“Wirral has a fantastic story to tell and by illustrating it through the medium of miniature golf, I am sure it will prove very popular.”

The course opened on July 17 – as the world’s golfing stars battled it out at the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

Despite opening during such a prestigious event, Nick insists this was purely coincidental.

He said: “The key really was to get the second course up and running for the summer. Course one last summer became too busy at times but with two courses, we can now reduce the on-course waiting times dramatically, making it an even more enjoyable experience.

“The reaction to course two has been phenomenal - from both the younger market who enjoy the different style, and the older generation who can relate to the historical references.

“Happily however, there hasn’t been a firm favourite between the two - both are still hugely popular.”

This year has already been a challenging one for Nick, who was forced to close Championship Adventure earlier this year after just eight months of business.

The course was all-but-washed away in last December’s storms, which saw it look more like a swimming pool than a miniature golf course when it was left submerged under two million gallons of the Irish Sea.

After a mammoth clean-up operation, the course was re-opened in the spring, allowing Nick to give his full attention to the new course and his future plans – which will see him develop courses across the globe.

Landmark Adventure Golf is open from 9.30am until 7pm throughout the year.
