What is Auto Enrolment?

Auto Enrolment is more commonly known as The Workplace Pension. By law, From 1 October 2018 all employers are legally obliged to offer a Workplace Pension to their employees as soon as they mploy them and this forms an integral part of the payroll process.

As assessment of each staff member needs to be carried out to check the eligibility for automatic enrolment, and if they meet the criteria, they need to be put into a pension.

The pension rule changes coincide with the fifth anniversary of automatic enrolment and highlights to business owners that the operation of a workplace pension is now simply part of running a business.

 

How Does Auto Enrolment Work?

The phasing in of the increases in minimum contribution was a much talked about point, especially when forecasting the total additional cost to the employer. The total contribution levels including employer contributions are shown below;
